Hey guys, my name is Ben Phillips. I'm from the Office of Leadership and Community Engagement. We're so sorry that we weren't able to have you guys here on campus for Accepted Students Day, but we're glad to have a minute to talk to you guys a little bit about what our office does here at Georgia Southern.
So again, Office of Leadership and Community Engagement. What do we do? What does that mean? Our office essentially helps students plug into the local community through service and volunteerism. So a couple of different programs on campus, the first one I'll talk about is our Serve 912 program. We send out trips daily for students that come. Join us; we'll take you out into the community. We'll go do some service. It's a free resource for students to use. You can sign up through our office; we go out, we'll do some service and come back. It's a great way to meet some folks on campus, some folks in the community and get plugged into Georgia Southern Statesboro or Savannah.
Next up we have our Alternative Breaks program, where we're actually taking students on long term trips for about a week at a time during breaks, Winter Break, Spring Break, and May Break. These trips go out throughout the year. We send students throughout the southeast, throughout the country. We do some international trips. They're really affordable and great ways for you guys to go out, to do some service in some different communities around the world and connect and learn about what it means to kind of give back.
Lastly, we have our Southern Leaders program. Southern Leaders is a co-curricular leadership program that students can apply to be a part of and join. In this program, you take leadership classes with us. You learn more about yourself. You learn more about how to lead in teams, and you really get a chance to invest in your leadership development. Other than that, we have different things going on throughout the year. We have Step Into Statesboro. We have Treasure Savannah, tons of ways for you guys to plug in. So we hope that you will consider coming and spending some time in the Office of Leadership and Community Engagement. We're in the Russell Union in Statesboro and the Memorial College Center in Armstrong. So thank you guys for spending some time listening to what we have to offer, and we hope to see you soon.
