Hi, my name is Allison Lyon, and I work for the Academic Success Center. So I want to talk to you a little bit today about all the great services and programs that we have to offer. We have a lot of great things for you, so bear with me, but they're all going to be critical to your success as a student.
So first, we have peer programs. We have peer tutoring that students can take advantage of, either on campus or virtually, to be more successful in their classes. These students have already taken those classes and want to help you succeed. So asking for help is not a bad thing.
Secondly, we also have peer mentoring. So these are juniors and seniors that have already been on campus for a while, gotten connected with other students, gotten involved on campus and are also succeeding academically, and they want to help our first year and second year students have that same success.
Next, we have success coaching. Success coaching, students can opt into this service, and it's a professional staff member that's going to help you create goals and targets and have someone hold you accountable throughout the semester that you can check in with consistently.
Next, you have consults and workshops. So we have staff called educational specialists, they can meet with you one on one to talk about an academic skill that you want to refine. Maybe that's notetaking, or preparing for tests and exams. But they also host a wide variety of workshops, all the way up to study skills in anatomy and physiology. That's tough. So they're here to help you.
Last but certainly not least in our department is testing services. So testing services is with you while you're trying to come into the institution to when you are leaving the institution. So helping proctor any of those tests you may need for admittance or to get into your major program, they're here to help you. As always, what we say in our department: need help, just ask.
