I'm originally from West Lane, Michigan, and I moved down here to come to school. And at the time, I was majoring in Nursing, and that's what I was dead set on. That was my plan. And very quickly I learned that I hated science. And that was not a good place for me to be in and not a good major for me to be studying if I hated science. So because of the campus culture that we have here of building relationships with your professors and having opportunities to volunteer and intern, I changed my major to Law and Society, and that major has three different tracks, and I am on the human behavior track. And so I was thinking originally of becoming an attorney, and going to law school and with taking more classes, I decided that that was not the best route for me to go on, and I decided to go into Social Work. So I've actually been accepted into graduate school to pursue a Master's in Social Work. But I'm so thankful that I had those twists and turns on my journey, and that I was able to change my major and pivot and adjust because I've learned so many things about myself, and about what I want to do. If it wasn't for those changes, I wouldn't be where I am today.
I've also been super involved on campus, which has been wonderful. I have worked on campus all four years in a variety of departments. My most favorite was I was an orientation leader. I still say it was the best job I ever had. I met my best friend there, and we had so much fun getting to work with incoming freshman, and it truly was a once in a lifetime opportunity. So I would encourage you that when you're here at Georgia Southern, that you really do make this your home away from home, that you get involved, that you take chances, that you try something new, and push yourself out of your comfort zone. College is much more than about just your academic experience. It's about growing personally as well. So I hope that in your next few years here at Georgia Southern, that you challenge yourself, that you seek out opportunities to grow, and, above all, that you have fun and that you learn a lot. So congratulations on being accepted and always Go Eagles.
